Ceramiche De Piazza was born in 1980, although its own creator, Pierbattista De Piazza, was born in Grosotto, in the county of Sondrio, in 1956. After his diploma as radio-technician, he moves to Emilia Romagna, where in his twenties he discovers his passion for ceramic. In 1979 he obtains a diploma at the “Steiner Institute” in Ravenna. The imprint takes place under the guidance of the masters from Faenza that, in their ateliers in the old town, lead him to classical ideals.

After perfecting his academic education, in 1980 the strong appeal of his land calls him back to Valtellina, where he opens his artistic workshop “Studio Forma e Colore”. His first works feel the effect of the geographical echo, traditionally linked to the rural world: the grapevine and its derived products. The progress in his artistic vocation will occur gradually, first repeating and re-elaborating forms from the past, then developing his own’s.

The public get to know him through a first exhibition with the painter Don Giovanni Da Prada: following exhibitions are at the Palazzo della Provincia in Sondrio, at the Fortezza Da Basso in Florence and in Monza for the M.I.A. (international design exhibition), “Living Design Center OZONE” in Tokyo and at the “Gallery of Kyoto Traditional Arts & Crafts”.

In the last years, thanks to the partnership of his son, Andrea, the studio has developed the crystalline glazes, glossy and matte, and the production of jewelries.

A philosophy, that of Ceramiche De Piazza, minimalist but not minimal, complete but never definitive, ever-evolving- such as matter – with its soul.
